Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about monitoring legacy machines with Traceab.

How can I monitor downtime on old machines that have no PLC?

Traceab connects directly to the machine's electrical signals (current sensors, GPIO, relay outputs) without requiring a PLC, SCADA or any modification to the control system. It detects running, idle and stopped states in real time and sends data to the cloud dashboard.

What signals does Traceab read from the machine and how does it connect?

Traceab reads digital and analog signals through GPIO ports and RS485. Typical inputs include motor current, cycle signals, safety-door contacts and operator-presence sensors. It connects to Wi-Fi or Ethernet and transmits to the cloud.

How long does it take to install Traceab on a machine?

A typical installation takes 30 to 60 minutes per machine. The module is plug & play: mount it, connect the signal cables and power adapter, connect to the network and the dashboard starts showing data immediately.

Do I need to modify the machine or the electrical panel?

No. Traceab uses non-invasive sensors and connects to existing signals outside the panel. There is no need to open the control cabinet, rewire anything or change the machine's programming.

How does Traceab calculate OEE?

Traceab measures Availability (uptime vs. downtime), Performance (actual cycle time vs. ideal) and Quality (good parts vs. total) to compute OEE automatically. The dashboard shows the breakdown by shift, operator and machine.

What is the difference between Traceab 2.0 and Traceab 3.0?

Traceab 2.0 is a compact box module with a touch screen, designed for direct machine mounting. Traceab 3.0 is a pedestal unit with a built-in RFID badge reader that identifies operators and technicians at the machine, adding full shift and personnel traceability.

Does it work without internet or on isolated plant networks?

Traceab stores data locally and synchronizes when connectivity is available. It can operate on isolated plant networks with a local server, or connect through a secure VPN to the cloud.

Where is the data stored and who has access?

Data is stored in a secure cloud environment. Only authorized users from your organization can access the dashboards. Traceab does not share or sell production data.

What does the AI Analyst do?

The AI Analyst is a monthly subscription that works on top of Traceab 2.0 or 3.0. It watches production and downtime patterns, flags anomalies before they become stoppages, and answers direct questions about your data — like having a dedicated analyst for your line.

Does Traceab work for medical device manufacturing (traceability, records)?

Yes. Traceab provides operator traceability with RFID (3.0), timestamped production records and shift logs that support documentation requirements in regulated industries like medical devices.

How much does it cost and how do I get a quote?

Pricing depends on the number of machines, the module generation and whether you include the AI Analyst subscription. Visit the Store page to build your configuration and request a formal quote, or contact us for line and plant deployments.

Do you offer support in Ciudad Juarez and El Paso?

Yes. Mechatronics AI has offices in both Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua and El Paso, Texas. We provide on-site installation, training and ongoing technical support in both cities.
